The D-8 International University; the Main Contact Point of Iran-Bangladesh Cooperation

In the recent meeting of the new ambassador of Bangladesh to Tehran, Mr A F M Gousal Azam Sarker, with H.E. Minister Gholami, Prof. Salar Amoli and Prof. Afkhami, Director of the D-8 International University, the possibilities of expanding scientific cooperation of the two countries, while making the most of the capabilities of the D-8 International University were discussed.

Referring to previous meeting of Iranian and Bengal ministers of science and higher education in May 2019, in this meeting, both sides re-emphasized on the necessity of capitalizing on the capabilities of D-8 University in cooperation between the two countries.

Given the history and common cultural similarities of Iran and Bangladesh, Minister Gholami stated that D-8 can act as a collaborative science center for expanding international scientific cooperation, and hoped for this university to make big contribution towards sustaining and expanding the current and future international scientific collaborations between the member countries; in particular Bangladesh.

Moreover, Prof. Salr Amoli highlighted the important role of introducing a contact point from each county, to facilitate the detailing and drawing of strategies and roadmaps for research and innovation cooperation.

Dr Afkhami also stated that the D-8 International University does not belong only to Iran, but to all member countries of the D8 organisation. He added that focusing on expanding the scientific network; it can also be the central contact point for enhancing and intensifying scientific cooperation between all member countries. He further added that this university is currently ready for admission of Master and PhD students in various fields, where we are hoping to see more Bengal students at this university, in the near future.
