Iran is the New President of the ECO Board of Trustees

Following the 5th meeting of the Executive Committee of ECOSF and the 4th meeting of the Board of Trustees of the ECO Science Foundation on 8-9 July 2019, in Isfahan, the Acting Minister for International Scientific Cooperation, announced that H.E. Minister Gholami of I.R. of Iran, is the new president of ECOSF for the next two years.

Prof. Hossein Salar Amoli, said the ECO has a very unique capacity on expanding the regional cooperation in the fields of science and technology. He emphasised on the need for the ECO member states on shifting the resource-based economy to a knowledge-based economy, and added that in the recent meetings of the ECOSF in Isfahan, Iran has emphasised on the importance of an evolution in functions of this organisation, in the forms of undertaking joint venture research projects, transfer of technology and exchange of students and researchers in the ECO region.

Prof. Salar Amoli added that according to the charter of the ECO Foundation, the hosting country of the Board of Trustees meeting, will be the president of the board of trustees of ECOSF until the next round of the board of trustees meeting; an issue which was raised and confirmed (along with budget issues, country shares and rights, and future plans) by the member states in the 4th meeting of the Board of Trustees of the ECO Science Foundation in Isfahan.

The Acting Minister of International Scientific Cooperation of MSRT pointed to the key role of Iran in the ECO and ECO Science Foundation, and emphasised on the need for creating a road map for science and technology of ECOSF and the ECO region.

Referring to scientific and technological enhancements and the increasing trend of world-class science, technology and innovation, Prof. Amoli emphasized: "the ECO region should keep pace with the rapid development in the field of science and technology and to reduce deepening of the gap between the developed, developing and the less developed countries”. He also highlighted the affective role of Iran, Pakistan and Turkey as the three major and key countries of ECO region.
